Kate Bush is being played on the radio right now. I once said an amusing comment about the re-recorded version of “Deeper Understanding” but I can’t remember what it was. I’m getting old. We all are. There are some LV shows coming up. They’re all listed above and take place over the next few weeks. In an ideal world, there is distance between performances in order...

Whilst I was in the shower this morning, I started thinking of answers to questions no-one had asked: “That’s very kind of you to say so, Jonathan. Well, you’re right but I’ve always liked to call it ‘English approximation of Scottish rock music’” I had a similar thing last week as I tried to sleep off some jet-lag. I thought it would be a good idea to...

I quite like the new LC! track. I really hope that the reason I don’t love it is due to a musical divergence rather than a residual personal bitterness. That’d be really shitty of my subconscious. We have also recorded stuff. Said ‘stuff’ will probably be available in an undetermined format, within an undetermined time frame. Apparently we now sound like a Celtic...

Not really. Thank you to everyone who came to our last two shows. We enjoyed both of them. Now we’re away to record something so we’re not selling ourselves on year-old songs we don’t play anymore. In the meantime, I’ve been listening to this so much all weekend. “All I want to know is why is he dressed like Roddy Piper?” Oh man. DB x

LD came back so it’s time to start working [full-time] again. That’s a double entendre seeing as Curb Your Enthusiasm is back on US screens. Just another insight into the personal world of LV. Well, at east one sixth of it. We’re playing two shows next week as you can see from the “Forthcoming Shows” above. One is our “first” performance aboard the Thekla...

LD has gone on holiday to the mythical West Coast of America so, as seems to be the way that we’ve operated for the past few years, we’ve taken the summer off. You might think that some of our songs are probably best listened to during the months where there is some sunshine but we like to take the opposite tack wherever possible. It’s best to play songs about summer in the...

Hey guys. How was your weekend? We bucked our recent trend by actually playing a show we said we were going to play and had a good time of it. Thanks to everyone who came out and to [The] Goodness and My Friend Friday. We wanted to play some of the new songs we’ve been rehearsing but decided to play it safe and stick to what we know, which led to a fun but slightly unpolished show. And...

So now we’re actually playing two shows this month. I like to keep you on yr toes by saying we’re not doing one thing and then promptly doing just that. The show on the 18th is very much the standard full-strength squad performing with electricity, under the guise of “hottest new band”. The show on the 14th is a more subdued, 5-a-side affair with LD alone; playing a...

You should probably take note: we’re no longer playing on Saturday with Sparrow And The Workshop. Sadly this is not because we have been considered too radical for the event (which we are) nor has our recent behaviour been too ungentlemanly for polite company (it most certainly has). This leaves the month of June currently clear for us to rewrite, rehearse and record existing and new...

It’s nice to know that Canada is still making great bands after the big indie explosion of the early 00s. Bravestation were excellent last week. Local Natives with less harmonies but more samples, possibly even an SP-404. You know a band is going to be good if they use(d) a Dr. Sample. In tribute to their homeland, here are some other great Canadien* bands who have nothing to do with...

Re: The Anonymous Admirer
There has been something of a breakdown in band protocol in the response to our lovelorn friend. Whilst DB did a fine job in his response, there is a very clear understanding that myself and Barny are the resident Love Doctors of the LV support group. With that said, I advise you all to ignore DB’s response and take this as the official party line: Dear Anonymous,   You have to ask...

I’m not sure how many ‘collectives’ would be unaware that they have been booked to play the venerable Dot To Dot (or D2D) Festival at the end of this month but LVFC are certainly one of them. All of our rhetoric about invitations lost in the post seems ill-advised when that is exactly what happened. The line-up seems strong throughout. Maybe not as good as the Hold Steady/Titus...

This is a serious, “behind the curtain” entry about facets of the music industry so please forgive my self-importance. I have utilised the “read more” feature so those who wish to read it can, and those who do not can listen to the best song of the decade and enjoy the sunshine. Describe yourself in one sentence. What is your USP? Selling yourself is not...

An official website EXCLUSIVE. Well, EXCLUSIVE to anyone who didn’t see on Facebook or wasn’t checking YouTube accounts last night. The song once and forever known as ‘Bojangles’ is now known as ‘Future Tides’. I was as upset as anyone to discover that my #1 choice of ‘Moonlight Sinatra’ was already taken by Ol’ Blue Eyes himself. ...

I can’t bring myself to write a full match report for last week’s gig so: we played pretty well, got 30 minutes under our belt, had a flat tire, were saved by our hero Joe and met two nice Wales-based bands, including Canadian/Cymru keyboard septet Sleepy Panda Club. Their new stuff sounds like The Sundays. Here are some songs that I am thinking about right now. There’s a...

On Saturday morning, I had a strange moment where I absolutely had to listen to Whitney Houston. So I did. Tonight we are playing in Cardiff at 10 Feet Tall. It represents a plethora of firsts: our first show outside of Bristol, our first show with a new drummer, our first show taking two vehicles as transport. Whilst some of us have done this before, it will be entirely new to half of the...

Keats was dead by 24. It is a sobering thought, particularly when you’re halfway straight edge, to consider that I’ve been doing this for something like 8 years. At 23, I already feel old. That above quote is from Kicking & Screaming; the one that came out in 1995. It’s a common thing to compare your life’s failures to a public figure who died early but I prefer...

I don’t know if it’s because people are more eager to please/network or less jaded and cynical and filled with bile at all the awful things you have to do in order to keep hold of the little semblance of success that you’ve been afforded, but bands on their first label-backed headline tour are normally very nice. King Charles were one of those bands, much like Official Secrets...

Don’t worry, Venue Magazine has been saved. My impassioned story seems to have done the trick, although the “music” section is no longer going to be in the magazine. Which seems an entirely worthless decision. Oh well, at least some people will keep their jobs and the populace can still read about which pub serves the best lunch. The various shows may still be going ahead and...

Before enduring a boring/galling 45 minutes of football on Sunday, I spent 5 hours across two train journeys. Normally my train journeys exist as pockets in time where I run through RPGs from the 90s on a handheld console from 2005; Chrono Trigger was dispatched in such a manner on regular trips to Edinburgh, as Dragon Quest IV is soon to be. Every so often, however, the intrinsic stigma...

Last night I saw the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, a group who are actually called Penguin Cafe, despite the tickets and various paraphernalia advertising otherwise. They were pretty fantastic. Seeing so many people on-stage, working off each other was very inspiring. In a way, it was a lot like seeing Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band - musicians who aren’t simply performing their...

The man once and still known as Brother Owl was nice enough to record the majority of the oft-mentioned first showing last month on a video-capturing device. Leaving aside the age-old conundrum of who would watch a live gig through a viewfinder, he is slowly but surely uploading his footage onto the Internet. You can find the currently uploaded videos on YouTube by searching for “little...

You know when people say “that’s my jam” when a song gets played? This is my jam. Even this extended version isn’t long enough. So we played our first show. It’s strange how, with some of us not having played for close to a year, that time in the wilderness really does make you rusty. You can rehearse songs for months but performing them is wildly different to...
